About Lynn

Simplicity.

Thanks for visiting Simple truth – Simple faith. What I am and what I do is founded on simplicity and reducing what seems complex to a more simple form – truthfully. Now you know my total agenda.

Blessed to live in the barn!

Some folks are just curious about who I am as they decide whether or not to read what I write. Others really want to know where I came from so they are better able to decide if they should believe what I write.

The short version is covered in the following bullet points. For anyone who cares to know more, just keep reading; there’s lots more here on the page. And, questions are always welcome and always answered. Just click CONTACT LYNN at the top of the page.

  • Retired equine professional, World and National Champion breeder, trainer, etc.
  • Former business consultant and motivational speaker.
  • Candidate for public office (1988) earning nearly 60,000 votes but beat out by Warren Buffet’s son.
  • Author of three published print books to date…

Living the Dream

A dream of a lifetime was achieved in 2011. I finally live in the barn with my horses (and dear husband, dogs, etc.) The more we have downsized the more freedom we found to experience greater depth and passion for what is most important to us.

The kids' bedrooms.

As each year passes I realize that fewer things in life are relative and that most of the gray areas of life are imagined. Most things truly are either/or; good or bad; black or white. Nothing is separate from anything else, not our business, our family, politics, or our relationship with Jesus Christ.

Life is simple when we follow a worthy leader. Peace, joy, contentment, and security are ours if we remain focused and committed. Simple faith in the person of Jesus Christ allows us to boldly live without fear.

The Message

The world is a mess. No news there, right?  My writing is meant to share messages that help readers find simplicity as Christians, horse lovers, and citizens where complexity and confusion presently reign.  My work on the Amazing Grays Ministry website is limited to Christian messages with obvious scriptural foundations. LynnBaber.net allows me to roam deeper into the culture with commentary on current events that beg for a little straight talk.

In all things I try to bring concepts of faith that overcome fear, a promise Christ made to us in John 16:33.

Relationships Top the  List

Simply put, the quality of your relationships determines the quality of your life. I cashed my first paycheck more than forty years ago. From the concession stand at the local ice rink to bringing clarity to others as a business consultant and motivational speaker, then living a lifelong dream as a National and World Champion breeder, trainer, and judge of horses – relationships have always been at the center of my world. Some were disastrous, some true blessings.

Bo, an amazing gray

Regardless of whether a relationship brought laughter or tears, each one taught me a lesson.

“My most influential teachers were friends, family, business adversaries, dogs, and horses. We learn from our failures. We rejoice in shared successes”

Lynn Baber

Passion inspires my writing about relationships, leadership, and supporting others in the family of Jesus Christ. Whether in articles for frustrated horse owners, words of Christian inspiration, or a book like  Amazing Grays, Amazing Grace , [Tate Publishing, 2010] I hope to help readers build amazing relationships in their own lives by focusing on what is universally true and usually simple.

He Came Looking for Me [Tate Publishing, 2011] is a true story of hope and redemption that connects the story of an unwanted horse with the mansion Christ promised each of us in John 14:2.   If you or a loved one have ever felt like giving up, that you are lost and finished with no try left, find strength and hope in the pages of HCLFM.

Earlier Experience

Truth applies in all situations, and what I learned in marketing, customer service, and leadership transitioned naturally to my work with horses in the late 1980′s. Customers brought me problem horses, horses they wanted campaigned as show horses, stallions to stand to the public, or a desire to find that special prospect for pleasure or show.

Warming up in Scottsdale, early 90's

In 1999, my husband and I moved from Arizona to the Weatherford, TX area to breed high-end reining and cutting quarter horse prospects. Of course, the barn ended up full of training horses as well. It was a great privilege to judge horses both in the US and Europe, and I hold a lifetime certification as an equine appraiser. Major changes in the horse economy led us to began selling our broodmares in 2005 and I retired from the commercial horse world in 2007.

Freedom to voice an opinion is always tied to a responsibility to act. In 1988 I ran for public office earning nearly 60,000 votes, but lost the general election to a prominent billionaire’s son. Politics is like Pandora’s Box. Once you open it you can never return to being blissfully ignorant.

Speaking with her hands...

Seeking connections with readers, I share illustrations drawn from time served as an introverted pre-teen, an extroverted teen, a figure skater, a college drop out living in an unfinished basement, a non-traditional college graduate, a successful business consultant and professional speaker, an abused wife, a cherished wife of more than a quarter-century, an anti-politician in politics, a community leader, a greener-than-green horse owner, a National and World Champion equine professional, a horse trainer, and as a child of God.
