Some days I wonder if the greatest value of these posts isn’t the Jeopardy portion. Do you know which of these folks is the polymath and who was court-martialed?

Jeopardy Answers:
Aristotle (384-322BC) – Greek philosopher and polymath. (Polymath – person of encyclopedic learning.) If you read QUOTES and PONDERABLES regularly you are working on becoming a polymath yourself!
Oswald Chambers (1874-1917) – Once a student of fine art and archaeology who founded a Bible College. His extensive printed works are available because his wife, Biddy, could take dictation at an amazing 250 words per minute. Chambers died in Egypt while serving the troops. He died from a ruptured appendix because he refused to take a hospital bed away from a wounded soldier.
Scott Weber - Young man studying to be a school teacher. This quote made the news from a September 2009 New Jersey town hall. Scott has a bright future.
Lynn Baber – If you don’t know, click on the ABOUT LYNN tab at the top. I only quote myself for easy attribution if copied and reused.
Maria von Ebner-Eschenbach (1830-1916) – Born in an Austrian castle and a daughter of the aristocracy, Maria wrote dramatic plays and then psychological novels. You probably know her most famous quote but not the source. She is credited with the aphorism*, “Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.”
Frank Scully (1892-1964) – Ufologist (ET, phone home.) and writer for Variety magazine. The character Dana Scully from the X-files is named after him. Scully was known for his idiosyncratic prose, describing Dr. Gee as having “more degrees than a thermometer” and an alleged crashed UFO in the Sahara as “more cracked than a psychiatrist in an auto wreck.” (Wikipedia)
Admiral Chester Nimitz (1885-1966) – a five star admiral and commander during WWII, you may be somewhat familiar with the Admiral. But did you know he was born in Fredericksburg, Texas and was court-martialed and convicted at age 22? Guess it’s a good thing they didn’t discharge him from service.
